Re-verification
BISP Re-verification Guide 2025 — 8171
BISP re-verification confirms your identity against NADRA records so your payments can continue. Learn who needs it, when it is triggered, the exact steps to complete it at a NADRA office, and what to do if your payment has been blocked.
Quick Answer
If your BISP payment is blocked due to re-verification, visit a NADRA office with your original CNIC for a fingerprint scan. Re-verification is always free. Payment resumes the next cycle after your identity is confirmed.

Read Guide →What Is BISP Re-verification?
BISP re-verification is a periodic identity confirmation processin which BISP cross-checks that the registered beneficiary's biometric data (fingerprints) still matches current NADRA records. Because Pakistan's CNIC system is living data — people renew CNICs, update addresses, or have fingerprints change due to age — BISP runs verification drives to prevent payments from reaching the wrong person.
Re-verification is separate from first-time registration. If you are already enrolled in BISP but see “payment blocked” or “verification required” on the 8171 portal, you have been flagged for re-verification. This is common and does not mean you have lost eligibility.
The process is handled through NADRA officesrather than BISP offices directly, because NADRA manages Pakistan's national biometric identity database. BISP then syncs with NADRA records after the scan is completed.
When Is Re-verification Required?
You may be required to complete re-verification in any of the following situations:
CNIC Renewal
When your Computerized National Identity Card expires and you renew it, BISP requires a fresh biometric confirmation to match your new CNIC details with the enrollment record.
Fingerprint Failure at ATM
If the HBL biometric ATM fails to recognize your fingerprint three times in a row, your account is temporarily flagged. You must visit a NADRA office to re-verify rather than continuing to attempt ATM withdrawals.
Quarterly Verification Drive
BISP conducts quarterly verification drives — especially in Q4 — in which all beneficiaries in selected districts are required to re-verify. You receive an SMS notification if your district is selected.
Data Mismatch Detected
If BISP's system detects a discrepancy between your enrollment record and your current NADRA data (e.g., address change or name correction), re-verification may be triggered automatically.
Step-by-Step Re-verification Process
Re-verification is completed at a NADRA office. The process is straightforward and typically takes under 30 minutes if you bring the correct documents.
- 1Check your status first — Visit 8171.bisp.gov.pk or SMS your CNIC to 8171 to confirm that re-verification is required and that your payment is blocked rather than cancelled.
- 2Locate your nearest NADRA office — Use the NADRA office locator at nadra.gov.pk or call NADRA helpline 051-111-786-100 to find the closest center. Most NADRA offices operate Monday–Saturday, 9am–5pm.
- 3Bring your original CNIC — You must bring your original CNIC — not a photocopy, not a phone photo. If your CNIC is expired, renew it first at NADRA before attempting BISP re-verification.
- 4Complete the fingerprint scan — A NADRA officer will scan your fingerprints using the BVS (Biometric Verification System) terminal. Both thumbs are typically scanned. The scan takes less than 2 minutes.
- 5Sync with BISP system — NADRA transmits the confirmed biometric data to the BISP database. This sync typically completes within 2–5 business days.
- 6Payment resumes next cycle — Once the sync is confirmed, your payment status on the 8171 portal will update from “blocked” to “active.” Payment is released in the next quarterly disbursement cycle for your district.
Non-BVS Option for Those Who Cannot Fingerprint
Some beneficiaries are physically unable to complete biometric fingerprint verification — for example, elderly women with worn fingerprints, individuals with a hand injury or disability, or those with a medical condition affecting their fingertips. BISP provides a non-BVS (non-Biometric Verification System) option for these cases.
Under the non-BVS process, identity is confirmed through an alternative documentation pathway rather than fingerprint scan. To apply, contact your nearest BISP office directly or call the BISP helpline at 0800-26477 (toll-free) to report your situation. A BISP representative will guide you through the alternative verification steps specific to your circumstances.
Important: Do Not Pay Anyone for Re-verification
BISP re-verification at NADRA is completely free. Anyone asking you to pay a fee for re-verification, CNIC renewal help, or payment unblocking is committing fraud. Report such cases via citizenportal.gov.pk or the BISP helpline.
Re-verification vs. First-Time Registration
| Aspect | Re-verification | First-Time Registration |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Already-enrolled beneficiaries | New applicants not yet in NSER |
| Where it happens | NADRA office (fingerprint scan) | NADRA office or BISP center (full survey) |
| Time required | 15–30 minutes | 30–60 minutes |
| Result | Payment unblocked next cycle | New PMT score calculated (1–3 months) |
